The Introduction Of Children’s Shoes: The Evolution Of Charles Clinkard

Carrying on with our monthly history feature, here at Clinkards we included the pitter patter of tiny feet into our business between the years of 1930 – 1940. If you missed how Clinkards was discovered, you can read more here.

Right – Eveline Clinkard

Eveline Clinkard, wife and co-founder of the company took a huge interest into children’s footwear after having her four kids with husband and business partner, Charles. Personally measuring and fitting her family’s footwear, Eveline decided to make her passion a reality by adding the concept into the Clinkard store, following the Second World War.

Each child which stepped foot in the Charles Clinkard store on Corporation Road, Middlesbrough had their feet measured by Eveline herself, meaning they left with the perfect fitting footwear.

Ensuring that children’s shoes are correctly fitted is a still a core principle of our business today. Not only do we offer a first shoes package but back to school is also a hugely popular time for us every year, making sure school shoes are comfortable for everyday use.

As children’s feet constantly grow, it’s important to regularly measure them and check the fitting of their shoes to prevent any injuries or squashed toes. When our stores re-open, you can book your children’s, or adult’s, fitting appointment online or by calling our friendly customer service team.

And, if your little ones have recently outgrown their shoes and you need to shop online, we have a handy printable guide where you can correctly measure your children’s feet within the comfort of your own home. You can even turn it into a crafts session for the kids by cutting out the foot print and sending us their fun filled designs.

As the success of our children’s fitting services grew, as well as the company as a whole, the next steps we took as a family business was expanding our expert services across the North East.
