Customer Reviews:

"I visited the Buckingham shop and received excellent service from efficient, friendly, helpful staff. I cannot recommend this store highly enough"

Deep in the heart of Buckingham, the Charles Clinkard store on Meadow Walk has a long history as a shoe shop (30 years!), starting out as Malcolm Hudson Shoes for over 25 years and then becoming Charles Clinkard in 2008. With a dedicated children’s shoe shop close by on Meadow Row, the best place to park for either store is the Cornwall’s Meadow Car Park next to Waitrose. If you are visiting the area by train, the nearest stations are Milton Keynes (Central Station) and Bicester (North Station), both conveniently linked to Buckingham via the X5 bus.

At the helm of both stores is Chris, Buckingham’s manager who drives their focus on top customer service combined with a great range of men’s women’s, boys and girls footwear and accessories. This, complete with a specialist kid’s fitting service means that the store is proud to be the only shoe business in town boasting a very good loyal customer base. Even Isla Sinclair is a regular!

Home of the British Grand Prix, the small market town of Buckingham is put prominently on the map because of its historically significant motor racing circuit, Silverstone which was built on a World War II Royal Air Force bomber station, RAF Silverstone.  The River Great Ouse winds through the tree lined town, which features cosy eateries like the Buckingham Tea Rooms offering a wide selection of delicious homemade and traditional treats. After a successful shoe shopping trip, walk 2 minutes from the store and order a pot of tea and a savoury cheddar and chive scone with the tea room’s homemade kiwi and red pepper chutney! Alternatively for a quick bite, head to Gyre & Gimble, the artisan coffee shop offering delicious coffees and sweet treats- literally one minute on foot from Charles Clinkard’s doors.

For a taste of the local area, visit the Old Gail Museum (a former prison dating back to 1748) or relax in one of the picnic areas within the bends of the winding River Great Ouse. Time your visit to our store well, and stop by at the Silverstone race track on your way home, sampling one of their countless motor events on throughout the year.

Literally running between both the adults and children’s stores, Chris starts his working day around 8am to prepare both for opening. Each day is different, with variable tasks like deliveries, staff training, reports to write and emails to keep him busy, as well as his fundamental focus on top level customer service. The great customer service in store is one of Chris’s main motivators for success, combined with his fun and hardworking store team in addition to the great wider company team. Like a true store manager, he wants his store to do well and to be the best.

A former Circus performer in Mexico and current Lindy Hop teacher in Oxford, Chris wanted to put his energy into working for a business where he was valued as an individual. Charles Clinkard was the perfect fit and he has now worked for the company for over five years (starting in 2012). Movies, Swing Dancing, Xbox and Chocolate keep him entertained outside of work!

Now a fully-fledged shoe expert, this season Chris loves the Ladies Rieker Rambler and styles by a new brand, Regarde Le Ciel which are crafted in super soft leathers. For Men he recommends the Anatomic & Co Peter and Merrell Moab Vent II. His favourite shoes ever bought were from The North Face before he worked for Charles Clinkard- they were only £14! Upon winning the lottery, he will be stocking up on Merrell shoes because he says ‘They do what they say on the box’!
