It was recently discovered that the Charles Clinkard store in Glasgow used to be a greengrocers named J. Macfarlane in the 1950s- with the original bag brought into store to prove it! Approximately 60 years on, the store was opened as Charles Clinkard in February 2012, selling a wide range of both men’s and ladies footwear and accessories. Located on the west end of Byres Road in Glasgow’s City Centre, the store is managed by Petra, who is proud to be the driving force behind the local area’s only shoe shop. As a result of this, the store has an abundance of loyal customers, for example a mother and daughter duo (who have been shopping at the store since it opened!) are always popping in for either a chat or a pair of shoes, even bringing chocolates in for the staff at Christmas!

Bus links are dotted down Byres Road, and the Hillhead Subway Station is found on the same street, a few moments’ walk from the store. This is also the best place to park for access to our store via car. If you are travelling to the store by train, there is a subway link between the Byres Road and St Enoch stations, the latter being situated a few minutes from Glasgow’s Central Railway Station.

The multi-faceted Glasgow delivers everything you’d ever want from the largest city in Scotland.. An electric mix of all things old and new, to make the most of both your days and nights there. Lucky in its proximity to some mouth-watering local eateries, satisfied shoppers leaving the Charles Clinkard store can simply cross the road and refuel in either Kember & Jones Café (try their sourdough toast smothered in fresh tomato, sea salt and extra virgin olive oil coupled with a cup of their own signature blend 100% Arabica coffee), or Peckham’s Delicatessen Café (where you can pick at a selection of their delectable pastries, meats, cheeses and fresh bread).

If you want to maximise your visit to the city, our store is situated in Glasgow’s West End, with tourist attractions including the magnificent historical Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum. Contrast this with the equally magnificent yet super contemporary Riverside Museum, and relax in the city’s peaceful and beautiful Botanical Gardens. Hop on a tour bus opposite the store for a whistle stop tour of the unique city.

Petra started her career with Charles Clinkard at the Northallerton branch as their Assistant Manager in 2005, progressing to manage Livingston’s store for five years before it unfortunately closed. After a short break she returned to the company at the head of the Glasgow store, where her hands-on approach is key to her stores success. Arriving early, she sets the store up for the day ahead. Aside from her prime focus on the fundamental customer interaction, she manages store admin, deliveries and merchandising so that her store always looks inviting and seasonal.

Revealing that upon winning the lottery, she will continue to purchase Gabor shoes (her favourite brand), she recommends their Agenda boots in Ocean blue in store at the minute. Her favourite shoes ever bought were a pair of boots she got from Germany as a teenager, and she still has them!
