Customer Reviews:

"I have just been into the Lincoln store and I would like to say a massive THANK YOU to Josh who served me and my 2 autistic children. He is an absolute credit to your team. I always receive good service there but today stood out as my youngest was incredibly stressed and difficlut but we still got service with a smile and great understanding!"

A very well established spot for shoe shopping, the Charles Clinkard store in Lincoln continues the line of five shoe businesses in succession to trade there, the last one being Janel Shoes. Offering the ultimate selection of men’s, women’s, boys and girls footwear and accessories, the store stands out for its prime focus on customer service and impressive brand range. The top floor caters solely for children, with a television and toys to keep them occupied while they are professionally fitted for some new shoes! The store’s manager, Emma has been the head of the store since 2015 when it opened.

Set on the prime Guildhall Street (a few moments from the main high street), the store retains many loyal customers, including one memorable lady who comes in to buy children’s shoes for her 2ft doll, always having to buy the same size as there is no growing room needed. Five minutes on foot from the store stands Lincoln’s Central Railway Station, where you can also park your car all day, and bus stops are dotted all over the surrounding streets, the city’s bus station being a mere six minutes on foot from the store.

A city steeped in significant history- maximise your visit to the area by going to marvel at Lincoln Cathedral, a famous example of English gothic architecture. Follow this with a visit to Lincoln Castle, an 11th Century Norman building, home to one of the most important historical documents in the UK! The Magna Carta was the very first document to set out the law as we know it today. Finally, take a walk along the Fosse Dyke canal, the oldest working canal in the country.

True to its name, have a walk up the city’s gem ‘Steep Hill’, for an array of speciality and vintage boutiques. There’s also the world-famous Lincoln Castle and Cathedral to discover, and if you visit the store in December, you will be able to have a festive wander around the annual Lincoln Christmas markets.

With some brand new shoes in hand, pop into Stokes Coffee Shop, two minutes on foot from the Charles Clinkard store. Set in one of the city’s historic Tudor buildings, they offer their own Lincoln-produced coffee, home-made cakes and the pièce de résistance, their ‘Lincolnshire Tea’ which is a carefully curated selection of local plum bread, Lincolnshire Poacher cheese and a pot of gold medal tea (a house blend made Robert Stokes himself over a century ago).

No newbie to the footwear business and self-proclaimed shoe lover, Emma, Lincoln’s store manager started her career as a Saturday girl at Stead and Simpson. She became Charles Clinkard Lincoln’s Store Manager in February 2015 upon the store’s opening. Her mum who worked for the Darlington branch had recommended her for the position. She was at that time an accomplished Team Leader at Clarks and was looking to develop her career.

With her fast paced days typically beginning with preparing the shop for opening and the day ahead, she has a quick hot chocolate while she catches up on email correspondence before opening the shop’s doors. Her days consist of entertaining her regulars and welcoming new customers, while simultaneously providing them with top quality footwear- her main motivational factor being the smile on customer’s faces as they leave her store. Fundamental tasks she completes between this include managing deliveries, paperwork and cleaning. The self-motivated and height averse manager has previously swam in the Yorkshire Championships and travelled to Australia.

Catching her eye in store at the minute are the Gabor Splendid for their glitz, perfect for a night out! She cites the best shoes she’s ever owned are most probably her Toms, because they are super lightweight, colourful and are the ultimate holiday shoe! Upon winning the lottery, she would add more Peter Kaiser designs to her shoe collection because she says they uplift her mood- they are dressy, chic as well as comfortable, even coming with matching bags!
