Customer Reviews:

Amazing service from Justine in Newbury who was so kind and patient with my son who had a meltdown! Would recommend the store to anyone. I won’t go anywhere else.

We just had our daughters school shoes fitted by Pat at Newbury store - the most pain free shoe shopping trip in years. Pat was brilliant with the girls and gave great advice. Thank you.

About the Shop

Initially situated on a site which serviced the footwear industry for over 50 years, Charles Clinkard’s presence in the market town of Newbury has been around for many years. The larger new location on Northbrook Street was chosen to compete with high street giants, and sells men’s, women’s, girl's and boy’s footwear, also offering a specialist fitting service. Standing out from the crowd in a town of many shoe shops, the Newbury store offers an unbeatable range of brands and knowledgeable, friendly staff. All customers are valued at the Newbury store, one most memorable being a bride in full attire who dashed in to desperately get her young bridesmaid some shoes that didn’t hurt!

Easily accessible by all modes of transport, the Charles Clinkard store in Newbury is a few minutes’ walk from both Newbury Railway and Bus Station, as well as the Parkway Shopping Centre where there are 550 secure car parking spaces available with easy access to the town centre (charges apply depending on stay).

About the Area

Most famously known for a bear called Paddington who likes to eat marmalade sandwiches, Newbury has many other unique features within the charming market town. A canal sweeps through the centre, opening up many waterside paths for walking and cycling, and within the historic town centre stands a rare medieval cloth hall and adjoining half-timbered granary building. Making a statement 13 minutes by car from the town is the awe-inspiring High Clare Castle, the ‘real’ Downton Abbey, where the popular television show was filmed. Newbury also has a race course, with an array of events taking place all year round.

Take the weight off your feet in the cosy Weaver’s walk, a local café two minutes on foot from the store, with a generous sized hot panini and a large cup of coffee.

About the Manager

Sarah, Newbury’s store manager is always kept on her toes as are her wonderful group of team members. She is always ready to satisfy any customer entering the store, meaning they leave with great fitting, quality footwear and a smile on their face. The keen runner was headhunted for her position, and has now worked at the store for a few years, describing her big motivators for current success praise and recognition.

Her recommendation for a great pair of work shoes are the Caprice Amelia, and she also rates the designs on offer from Gabor. Adventurous in her personal life as well as her choice of footwear (skydiving is one of Sarah’s past conquests), Sarah’s favourite pair ever purchased were some vintage Red or Dead metal stiletto heeled shoes in rainbow colours. Upon winning the lottery, Sarah would have her shoes tailor-made for her UK size 3.5, wide fitting feet.
