Customer Reviews:

We were served by Hilary at the Summertown Oxford store. She was very helpful, kind and patient and Mum is pleased with her purchase. I would recommend this store.

Charles Clinkard in Summertown Oxford is my favourite shoe shop. Nearly every time I visit the store I find something that I like. They offer a good customer service. I recently wanted a pair of shoes and a pair of boots, but they did not have my size. Chloe promptly ordered them and when they were in gave me a telephone call to say they had arrived. I also like the idea of receiving points on my purchases. Well done Charles Clinkard.

About the Shop

Taking pride of place on one of the major arterial boulevards leading from Oxford’s city centre, the Banbury Road location in the delightfully named suburb of Summertown stands out for its product mix and focus on top customer service, as well as being the only one of its kind in the surrounding area. Retailing shoes even before Charles Clinkard became resident in 2008 (previously Michael Greenwood), the store is a place where customers are retained. The store, ran by Chloe, offers an excellent range of footwear and accessories for men, women, boy's and girl's, and has even survived a fire on its premises in 2014.

Travel to the store by train, and your nearest station is Oxford Parkway Railway station, which is linked to the store via an 8 minute bus ride along the same road. Visit the store by car, and you can park free of charge right outside the store for 30 minutes, or at Marks and Spencer Simply Food, a one minute walk away (directly across the road) and costs only £1 per hour for up to five hours.

About the Area

Set in a city revolving around the oldest and possibly most prestigious universities in the English speaking world, our Charles Clinkard store in its suburb of Summertown holds many opportunities for a top class cup of coffee. In addition, grab a gourmet picnic bag or platter from Taylor’s Gourmet Sandwich and Deli Company to revive yourself after a successful shop, stopping by at the local farmer’s market opposite the store if you visit on a Sunday.

With plenty to do in the Oxford area, you won’t know where to begin! Many historical buildings remain following WWII, possibly due to the fact Hitler intended to use Oxford as his capital city if he conquered England, so did not bomb it. Great examples being the awe-inspiring Radcliffe Cinema and the Oxford University buildings including Christ Church (the great hall was used as inspiration for Hogwarts Grand Hall, and its staircase was used in many of the Harry Potter films). Interestingly, the girl Lewis Carroll based his famous Alice in Wonderland character upon was the daughter of Henry Liddell, the dean of Christ Church. After a visit to our shop just a couple of stops down is GAIL's bakery with over 30 different types of bread on offer and all your favourite sweet treats. Finally, after a successful day of shopping why not visit Oxford’s Ashmolean Museum, the world’s first ever public museum.
