Customer Reviews:

"I am just writing to say thank you for the excellent service that I received while visiting your Meadowhall shop at the weekend. I was thoroughly impressed by your staffs attitudes and by their patience while fitting shoes for my two young (and indecisive) children. Left the store happy kids with an extremely happy mum, thank you for going that extra mile!"

Drawing customers from all directions, the extensive indoor shopping and leisure destination filled with over 280 stores, just outside of Sheffield’s city centre was opened in September 1990. With the largest children’s footwear department in the North, many members of their staff have been there from the very beginning! The Meadowhall store stocks a wide selection of quality men’s, women’s, boys and girls footwear, also boasting a specialist fitting service. Allowing us a glimpse into the large store’s loyal customer following, Liz, their manager describes some of their regulars. There is a couple who come in every single Tuesday morning, always having a laugh with the staff. A lovely lady who has overcome two strokes always gives her a kiss when she visits, and a mum and her three daughters visit the store most Saturday mornings, bringing in their new-born babies especially to see the store staff. She says that it’s a great feeling overcoming a customer’s doubt whether they can be helped or find what they’re looking for.

Making it one of the most accessible of our shops, Meadowhall comes complete with its own train and bus stations and over 12,000 free car parking spaces.

The leafy green ‘Steel City’, a destination historically known for its steel pioneering, is home to the world’s oldest football club Sheffield F.C. Apparently having more trees per person than any other European city, it is also famous for blessing the world with The Arctic Monkeys, Def Leppard and Pulp, and for its other former resident, Robert the Cutler who resided in the city around 1297, starting off the city’s renowned cutlery industry.

With extensive eateries within the gigantic Meadowhall centre, our recommendation for respite in your successful shopping trip is the newly opened Pret A Manger with its mega tasty Caesar salad sandwiches and double chocolate orange cookies. Maximise your visit to Sheffield by visiting the Butterfly Farm in North Anston, a constantly changing place for the whole family to enjoy.

Her 14 year service for Charles Clinkard started and finished as manager of the Meadowhall store, also holding the position of Operations Manager in between for nearly four years. Liz starts off her day checking with her stock team to see what is on their agenda, then delegates any priorities. She then catches up with any other management in store regarding stock, staffing, sales and performance and opens the doors for the day. She makes it a priority to ensure targets are achieved in store, and to ensure every sale possible meets her high standard for customer service. Liz’s main focus is her customers- she loves meeting new people every day and also seeing her regulars. Charles Clinkard was not the first shoe retailer she has worked for. Beginning at K Shoes as a Saturday girl, she has also worked for Ravel as a store manager in various locations.

Seeing her job advertised on the closing day of applications, she phoned Charles Clinkard’s head office and faxed over her CV just in time. After multiple interviews she was offered the job. Working for a company with such lovely people has kept Liz loyal to the company- she feels she is valued as a person rather than a number.

With family at the centre of her world, Liz has recently started skiing lessons (she has had to postpone them for a while though, as she broke her arm slipping on laminate floor while on a coffee break during a lesson!) Her favourite place ever visited is Barbados, a dreamy place where she once saw many baby turtles heading for the sea, rescuing one that was travelling the wrong direction. Her hero was her Grandad Rodgers, a ‘true gentleman’, and the most kind, loving and generous man she’s ever met, always putting others before himself.

Now a true shoe connoisseur, Liz‘s recommendation sold in store at present are Fly boots for casualwear and Gabor boots for work- she really values comfort. Her favourite brand is Paul Smith, which was her guilty pleasure before having her little girl. She treated herself to some of his swirl sandals and doesn’t know what she’ll do without them when they give up the ghost, as they go with absolutely everything! Upon winning the lottery, she would splurge on more sandals both comfortable and bright!
