The family run, old-fashioned department store was established in 1837, and attracts a lot of people through its doors. The particular site of our Charles Clinkard concession used to be an old fashioned butcher, a fact store staff blame for their feeling that there’s still a ghost residing there! The stores great product range and emphasis on top quality customer service draws customers to the concession, which offers a wide selection of both men’s and women’s footwear and accessories.

Most memorably, the Romsey team, which is managed by Claudia, searched the whole company for one lady’s dream wedding shoes, managing to find her the last pair in the whole business. She was absolutely delighted and said she had never received service like it! She even popped back into the store after her wedding to show the staff pictures of her wearing them on the day- she loved them!

Within the quaint market town residing in Hampshire, Southern England (birthplace of the one and only Charles Dickens!), our Charles Clinkard concession stands inside Romsey’s Bradbeers department store.

Following a successful shop at our concession, head over the road from the department store and into the White Horse Hotel. They do an exceptional continental breakfast buffet for only £7.50, featuring Danish pastries, meats, cheeses, English muffins, fresh fruit and their delightful in-house made marmalade. Maximise your visit to the area by visiting Romsey Abbey and the new War Horse statue in the town’s War Memorial Park, a memorial of the horses used in the First World War.

Claudia is responsible for opening her department’s doors within the department store. She begins her day by reviewing the shop’s figures and targets and creates a to-do list. She spends a lot of her time on the shop floor, inspiring her store’s top level customer service, and once this primary focus is in order, she will keep on top of necessary admin like special orders and deliveries. When Jones Bootmaker went out of business 9 months ago and made its staff redundant without warning, Charles Clinkard saved the day by taking on its staff as their own, bringing their wealth of experience with them. Claudia loves getting to know her customers, who start as regulars and then become friends. She loves walking away on a night knowing she has given her all and that her efforts have resulted in happy customers.

Claudia has walked the very cold but very worthwhile London Moon Walk two years in succession (26.2 miles overnight) for Breast Cancer Awareness, and used to run her own successful handcrafted bridal jewellery business for 6 years before working at Charles Clinkard. She has also taken in the view from the top of the tallest building in the World, the Burj Khalifa in Dubai! Outside of work, Claudia splits her time between making jewellery, going to Zumba classes and walking her dog.

Her favourite shoes ever owned are some sparkly heels bought from Macys in New York for her 50th birthday this year. Upon winning the lottery, she would buy Gabor shoes as they make half sizes, and her recommendation for a great pair of boots in store at the moment are the brand’s Tiffey style in black suede.
