About the Shop

A cornerstone in the company’s legacy, the Middlesbrough Charles Clinkard store was the very first one. Opened in 1924, it was initially managed by Charles and Eveline Clinkard themselves and staffed by some of their family members. It was one of the first shoe shops in Middlesbrough to boast a wide range of luxury brands with a primary focus on customer service, presently offering quality men’s, women’s, girl’s and boy’s footwear and accessories, and a specialist children’s fitting service to accurately measure little feet. As with all of Charles Clinkard’s stores, the team at the Middlesbrough branch, managed by Gina, pride themselves on top customer service. They strive to meet each customer’s individual needs, going above and beyond to ensure that customers are happy with their shopping experience.

Centrally positioned in Middlesbrough town’s main shopping area within walkable distance of both the town’s bus and railway stations, the Charles Clinkard store is easily accessible via bus, train and car (there are many car parks in the town centre, the Cleveland Centre and Hill Street Shopping Centre being the closest).

About the Area
The first major British town to be bombed during World War II (one of which nearly hit our Charles Clinkard store!) because of its key steel making operations and industry, Middlesbrough has a city centre abundant in creativity. Many quirky independent businesses are popping up all over the place, including The Olde Young Tea House on Grange Road, a unique vintage themed tea room with an impressive selection of loose teas and dreamy cakes. Release your inner child and take a ride on the town’s most prominent landmark- the Grade II Listed Tees Transporter Bridge (also the only bridge in the UK you can bungee jump from). It was built by Dorman Long and Co Ltd of Middlesbrough, a steel making firm who also built the Sydney Harbour Bridge. Maximise your visit to the eclectic town, by visiting our store on the last Saturday of the month, when Middlesbrough hosts the Orange Pip Market within the Bedford Street and Baker Street areas. An electric mix of food stalls, live music and entertainment is on offer for the whole family.

Two minutes on foot from the store, Patisserie Valerie within Debenhams also offers delicious treats and a sit down for satisfied shoppers, particularly favoured by a member of staff at the Charles Clinkard Middlesbrough store, who brings a selection of their cakes in for staff every Friday. Birthplace of the delicious Parmo, head to pretty much any of the town’s takeaways or restaurants and grab yourself one of the town’s local delicacies- the bread crumbed chicken slab topped with a rich layer of parmesan cheese and béchamel sauce, and showered with garlic sauce and chips.

About the Manager

With an impressive 29 years’ service for the company, Gina started as a Sales Assistant in Charles Clinkard Redcar branch when she was 17, progressing to Assistant Manager at the Northallerton store for over 10 years before realising the position of Manager in Middlesbrough. Her typical day consists of delegation, reviewing targets and liaising with senior members of staff. She keeps a vigilant eye over her store, constantly identifying any potential issues and key areas of improvement. Every day she briefs each staff member at the start of their shift to inform them of their daily branch targets and individual responsibilities. Customer interaction and facing challenges is what Gina does best, and she is kept motivated by her team achieving their personal and professional goals or when her branch has accomplished outstanding results.

Passionate about many things in life; her love of travel took her to Australia for six months in 2015, her love of dance is expressed with her commitment to weekly salsa classes, and her love of people means she regularly explores new restaurants and bars within the local area with her friends and work colleagues, also hosting regular dinner parties for them! Her greatest fear is marriage... and she has the six engagement rings to prove it!

The Gabor Lilia have caught her trained eye in store at the minute, their comfort and style standing out. A favourite brand of Gina’s, her favourite shoes ever purchased were also a pair of Gabor shoes when she was 17! Bright red with black bows-  the first time she wore them on a night out someone shouted "click your heels, Dorothy" so she did, but then the Wicked Witch suddenly appeared (her mother) to take her home! Upon winning the lottery, she will be heading straight to Jimmy Choo after spotting some of the brands finest recently in Harrods, London!
