How to Look Chic for Urban Cycling

With the Tour de France starting out in North Yorkshire this year, cycling is set to be a huge trend for summer. But don’t fret if skin-tight lycra isn’t really your thing; we’ve got the essential guide to chic cycling clothing whilst pedalling in the city.

Keep it Short & Sweet
By all means wear a dress, but don’t wear a maxi that could get tangled in the chain. Not only could it cause an accident, but your dress will be ruined as well. Pick something shorter (not too short) and let the wind catch it as you glide along, or tuck it under your bum to keep your modesty and dignity intact.

Get Backpack in the Game
A swinging bag by your side will affect your balance and control, and can distract your eyes from the road. Pack your essentials in a stylish backpack instead, to balance the weight and keep belongings safe and sound.

Go Flat Out
Heels aren’t ideal when you’re on a bike, as you’re not as balanced when you come to stop and the angle of your feet won’t feel natural on the pedals. We say stick to flat shoes, so you’re always ready to stop and go with the traffic flow.

If you do one thing…
Remember to cycle safe – you may have perfectly coiffed hair but a helmet is a cycling essential! Don’t overdo the hairspray and pack some dry shampoo and a comb to rock that effortless, ‘I woke up like this’ style.
