The time has come to swap summer’s bright blooms for black-on-black velvet, feather and lace confections.
The Trend
Halloween may be weeks away, but those in the know are getting into the gothic spirit. Morbid and edgy, black is always the colour of choice for the seasoned pro. The fun lies in the fabric: leather, velvet, chiffon, lace, and silk, all adorned with indulgent embellishment.
Just like the Grunge trend, this moody affair may strike fear into the hearts of many, but it’s much more polished than first glance may divulge. Soft, feminine and romantic, yes, but with an edge given through leather and hardware that injects extra glamour. You don’t need pasty, pale skin, sunken cheekbones and black locks. This is contemporary and very, very wearable.
No Colour; Full Cover
Growing up gracefully just got interesting; showing less is definitely more. Covered Up is both adorable and sexy. Lashings of lace show flashes of flesh, but cover your clavicles and keep those pins under wraps. Add some fur – faux, of course – when the temperatures plummet.
Depending on how much attitude you want to portray with this look, you don’t need to stomp around in heavy flat boots. Some pointed pumps can be gently demure daywear yet tantalisingly seductive as the evening draws in.
The Gabor Vision pumps have the two-sided shoe down to a tee – literally. Sweet in saintly suede to the front, they look like any pair you might wear to the office, or of an evening. But from the back, a pop of playful patent reveals a more sinful side.
This offering from Peter Kaiser is feminine and flirty, with their prim bow trim suggestive of sugariness. Wear with lace and plush velvet however, and they become the shoes of a seductive siren.
The Hispanistas Paris are a gorgeous pair of low cut ankle boots that transcend the seasons… and the styles. Adding some attitude but still adequately girlie, we love them in blood bordo red.
