Clinkard’s Colour Crush: Blush Pink

Pink, as Diana Vreeland declared in the early ‘60s, is the navy blue of India.

The first month of the New Year has just flown by and it seems that in the blink of an eye we’ll be at cruising altitude for spring. But before we start breaking our floral dresses and open-toed sandals, let’s be sure not to miss out on the chance to enjoy these colder temps and all that comes with them.

As Valentine’s Day lies just up ahead, let’s embrace a warmer hue, with a sensual and versatile nature that’s kind to post-winter complexions. Blush is a perfectly ethereal shade that screams comfort, delicacy and softness, just the thing we need to balance out the crisp bite of a fresh February morning.

How to wear blush

A lighter, fresh shade of pink, blush is perfect for refreshing your winter wardrobe. It can function as the star or the understudy of your look, acting a neutral base colour or adding a pop of colour to a monochrome outfit.

To begin your blush journey, try injecting key pieces into your look. Keep it simple and sophisticated with a classic palette of black, white and soft grey, layered with blush basics to see how the new hue works with your established wardrobe staples.

Once you’re comfortable with the colour, it’s time to delve deeper into the trend. Start this candied tale at your feet, then let it pirouette across everything else. Try building an outfit that incorporates two or more light pink pieces to create subtle tonal contrasts. With its soft tints, it’s almost impossible to make your pieces clash, so don’t be afraid to experiment.

Loving your new pink palette? Then it’s time to meet the family. Blush pairs beautifully with other pastels, so introduce some sorbet shades such as mint green, soft aquamarine or pale lemon.

As for accessories, blush is nothing without a golden addendum.  It’s a classic interiors combination and just the right side of kitsch – like this dreamy rose gold Tula bag. And if you haven’t heard of “blush draping” just yet, you will soon: it’s Spring 2017’s 80’s-inspired answer to contouring.

Soon you’ll be wearing blush pink from cheek-to-feet. No winking boys required.
