Transitional Dressing: A style guide

Dressing for the in-between period can be tricky. The weather changes at the drop of a hat, and while we’re ready to pack away chunky winter layers, we still need to stay warm on those lingering chilly days – it’s a constant balancing act. The key is light layers and neutral colours. Think breathable knits, tailoring, classic trench coats, and versatile basics that can be added or removed as the temperature shifts. A lightweight scarf or structured jacket can make all the difference in the morning chill, while still feeling effortless by midday. Transitional dressing is all about balance – mixing textures and investing in timeless pieces that work across seasons.

We’ve put together four transitional looks for you to take inspiration from. Each one features pieces you more than likely already have in your wardrobe, styled in fresh ways to help you bridge the gap between seasons.

FitFlop RTG

The perfect example of a modern trainer, the FitFlop RTG exudes style. Crafted from premium leather with suede panels across the toes, the RTG delivers a refined look, enhanced by the 4cm platform sole unit.

Despite the endless ways to style this pair, we have gone with a straight leg jean, structured jacket and light knitted vest, with a fashion-forward bag to complete the look. Layer a T-shirt underneath for chillier days, or loose the neck tie when the temperatures start to rise. For a sleek off-duty feel, try pairing them with leggings and a bomber jacket, or dress them up with a flowing midi skirt for a more elevated take.

Rieker Amazing

Perfect for everyday, the Rieker Amazing trainers offer more than a stylish silhouette, but comfort and durability too. The retro-inspired design is complete with a convenient side zip for easy on-off and extra security, while synthetic uppers and textile linings offer breathability – making them ideal for transitional weather when you need footwear that adapts to changing temperatures and unpredictable conditions.

We have paired the Amazing with some cream casual trousers, a light pink knit and a green waterproof jacket for a look that’s effortlessly stylish and ready for whatever this time of year throws at you.

Gabor Calm

Introducing the ultimate transitional style: the Gabor Calm loafers. Perfect for the days when you’re craving something lighter on your feet while still providing adequate coverage, the Calm combines effortless elegance with all-day comfort, making it your go-to choice for workdays, weekends, and everything in between.

We’ve styled them with a light navy knit, jeans and a trench coat, accessorised with a knitted scarf and a Barbour tote – ideal for everything from lunch dates to the school run. Effortlessly transitioning from day-to-night, the Calm would also look great with a structured blazer or satin midi skirt for more formal occasions.

Gabor Dixie

Slip your feet into pure sophistication with the Gabor Dixie. Classic and versatile, the Dixie is a pair that will serve you season after season, effortlessly complementing any look – whether you’re attending a winter wedding or a spring soiree.  Featuring soft suede uppers and timeless pointed toes, they elongate the silhouette while keeping every step refined and comfortable.

For a more formal look, we’ve styled the Dixie with a pink pinstripe tailored coord and a cream Elie Beaumont bag. For a chic alternative, try pairing them with a midi dress or structured blazer for a polished day-to-night outfit that’s effortlessly elegant.
