There’s something about this time of year.
It could be the crispy leaves cascading in their autumn hues, or the arrival of holly bushes sprouting beautiful berries.
Whatever the reason, it is safe to say that red is red hot right now. At Clinkard HQ we’re on red alert for all things bordeaux, burgundy, claret, crimson, rose and ruby.
The colour red has never been easier to wear, thanks to the catwalk and major trends hitting the high street this AW14. That’s not to say it’s something entirely new though. Hollywood’s Gold Age, the 1950s and 60s, saw screen sirens Marilyn Monroe and Audrey Hepburn making infamous their luscious red pouts, exuding a demeanor of passion, sensuality and power. Going back further to the 1939 Wizard of Oz adaptation and indeed the book fit originated from, we come across the most infamous red shoes ever: those renowned red, ruby slippers. Back further, and we meet the Brothers Grimm with their folklore tales including Little Red Riding Hood (keep your eyes peeled for more folk and fairytale trends emerging throughout the season!).
Prolific as it has been throughout fashion history, red re-joins us in the real world this season and it has definitely grown up. With red ankle boots for women hotfooting it into our wardrobes, here’s how we’re incorporating this season’s hottest hue into the latest trends and turning ourselves into scarlet starlets…
Two Tone
The two-tone trend presents a truly versatile way for women to wear red ankle boots, with a multitude of tones and textures allowing you to pair them up with an array of items from your wardrobe.
Folk And Fairytales
Designers have worked their magic in making red a real scorcher, with the likes of the Gabor Georgie ankle boots really capturing the essence of romance.
Grab Some Grunge
Chunky soles and flatforms were all the rage through the summer months and we loved them! We’re so happy to see new season styles continuing the trend in the hottest of hues – these Fly London Yat ankle boots are just perfect!
Zip Zip Hooray
The Vitti Love Point red ankle boots combine two major trends in one: the cherry-red leather marries perfectly with exposed gold zips for a look that’s walked straight off the runway.
Seeing red? Let us know how you’ll be wearing it in the comments!
