Here at Charles Clinkard, we’ve decided to dig into the archives to bring you a monthly feature discussing all things footwear and our company heritage. We hope you will join us as we reminisce on our earlier accomplishments within the retail industry and share our success’ as a family business within the North East of England.

To start off, we’re bouncing back to 1920 where it all began. After serving in the First World War, our original founder Charles Clinkard discovered his passion for sourcing high-quality boots that were comfortable and long-lasting. With careful consideration and much deliberation, it was 1924 that husband and wife team Charles and Eveline Clinkard opened their first store within their home town, Middlesbrough.
There business model for the Clinkard enterprise was simple, to provide quality shoes at great prices with only the highest-level of customer service to achieve a first-class customer experience. This is something that is still very much at the forefront of our company today, many years on, and we aim to have only the best footwear on offer for our customers old and new.

In a normal world (pre-pandemic), we welcome everyone into our stores with open arms and only the biggest smiles, hoping you leave not only satisfied as a customer, but part of the Clinkard family – we hope to have you back shortly and safely.
The next part of our journey includes the introduction of tiny little feet and how fitting children’s shoes has became a dedicated service that we offer in many of our stores. But, that’s a story for another throwback feature within our independent, family-owned business.
We hope you stick around to find out more.
